Commerce on the southern central axis

After Beijing's Outer City was built in the Ming period, this became its main north-south commercial street. Today's façades were extensively restored, framing the Qianmen tower and tram tracks in one formal view.

Qianmen Street at night

The Qianmen No. 1 tram borrows the look of Beijing's early streetcars. It is a short sightseeing ride, not public transport, and becomes especially busy when festival lights are on.

Qianmen sightseeing tram

Turn east for Xianyukou food street or west toward Dashilan's old shops. Tian'anmen Square is close on the map, but security routes make the walk longer than it appears.
