Who we are
Journey To China is an independent travel information website. This policy explains how information may be handled when you visit the site or contact us. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to contact@journeytochina.org.
Information you provide
We may receive information that you choose to send by email, such as your name, email address, message and any attachments. The site currently does not offer user accounts, paid subscriptions, direct bookings or payment processing.
Please do not send passport numbers, payment card details, health records or other sensitive information unless we specifically request it through an appropriate secure process.
Information generated when you visit
Our hosting and security providers may process limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the site. This can include an IP address, browser type, device type, requested URL, timestamp, referrer and error or security logs.
Journey To China currently does not operate its own behavioral analytics system and does not intentionally set non-essential advertising or analytics cookies. If this changes, this policy and the Cookie Policy will be updated before the new processing begins where required.
How we use information
We may use information to:
- deliver, secure and troubleshoot the site;
- respond to messages and privacy requests;
- correct content and improve editorial quality;
- prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents;
- comply with legal obligations; and
- establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Where a legal basis is required, processing may rely on your consent, performance of a request you made, our legitimate interests in operating a secure and useful website, or compliance with law. You may withdraw consent at any time where consent is the basis.
Advertising and Google services
Journey To China does not currently display Google ads. If Google AdSense or another advertising service is enabled in the future, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies or similar technologies to serve, measure and personalize ads based on visits to this site and other sites.
Before activating advertising, we will update this policy to identify the relevant providers and choices. Where required, we will request consent before using non-essential storage or personal data for personalized advertising. Visitors can learn how Google uses information from partner sites at Google's partner sites policy and manage personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings.
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, personalized Google advertising requires an appropriate Google-certified consent management platform. Advertising will not be treated as active merely because this policy describes a possible future use.
Embedded and linked services
Some pages include or link to third-party content, including YouTube videos. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed domain where available. A third party may still receive technical information or use storage when you play or interact with its content. Your activity on an external service is governed by that provider's privacy policy.
When information may be shared
We may share information only as reasonably necessary with:
- hosting, security and technical service providers acting for us;
- professional advisers where confidentiality protections apply;
- authorities or other parties when required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety; and
- a successor in connection with a legitimate reorganization, merger or transfer of the site, subject to applicable law.
We do not currently sell personal information. We also do not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If future advertising creates a sale or sharing obligation under an applicable US state law, we will provide the required notice and opt-out method before that activity begins.
Retention
We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose described in this policy, including security, recordkeeping and legal requirements. Email correspondence may be retained while a request is active and for a limited period afterward. Technical logs are generally retained according to the schedules of our hosting and security providers.
International processing
The internet and our service providers may involve processing in countries other than your own. Where law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we will rely on an applicable legal mechanism or require the relevant provider to do so.
Your privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or an explanation of personal information processing. You may also have rights to object, withdraw consent, opt out of certain advertising uses or appeal a decision about a request.
Send requests to contact@journeytochina.org. We may need to verify your identity and may decline or limit a request where law permits. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection or consumer privacy authority.
Children
The site is intended for a general travel audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in a manner that requires parental consent. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the website. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our services, providers or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes will be presented in an appropriate manner.
