The airport, Tianmen Mountain and central Yongding

Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport (张家界荷花国际机场) uses the code DYG and serves as an international aviation gateway to the Wuling Mountains. Tianmen Mountain often appears behind the runway and apron during the approach, after landing, or through the terminal windows, making the airport's position beside Yongding District easy to understand.

Routes to the Tianmen Mountain cableway, Guanliping and hotels in central Yongding are concentrated on this side of the city. Wulingyuan, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon lie beyond the urban area and require an onward road journey. Use the full hotel address or the exact scenic-area entrance as the destination when arranging transport.

From the apron, Tianmen Mountain, cloud and airport infrastructure share the same view; the mountain is also the most visible landmark on the route into Yongding.

Getting to hotels and scenic areas

DYG has no metro connection. Taxis and ride-hailing cars provide direct trips to central Yongding, the Tianmen Mountain cableway area and nearby hotels. Hotel transfers also normally meet arriving passengers at an agreed point on the arrivals level.

For Wulingyuan (武陵源), the national forest park, Tianzi Mountain or the Grand Canyon, check Zhangjiajie's city-to-scenic-area bus network. It uses the airport, railway stations and coach stations as transport nodes and links them with the principal scenic areas. The Xiangyuexing (湘悦行) service shows current routes, ticketing and vehicle information. Services change with the season and demand; taxis, ride-hailing and pre-arranged hotel transfers suit journeys that need to finish at a specific hotel or entrance.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park has several entrances, while accommodation in Wulingyuan is spread across different areas. Confirm the destination with the hotel's Chinese and English name, a map pin, or the chosen park entrance instead of using only a general park name.

The departure lounge faces Tianmen Mountain, keeping the meeting point between Zhangjiajie's mountains and its urban area in view before boarding.

Evening arrivals and departure planning

Before an evening arrival, check the day's scenic-area bus service in Xiangyuexing and ask the hotel about night transfers. International arrivals should also include immigration and baggage collection when agreeing on a pickup time.

After the scenic-area buses have finished, staying in central Yongding for the first night creates a simpler connection to Wulingyuan or other scenic areas the next morning. Travellers with a confirmed hotel transfer or private car can continue directly from the arrivals level to their scenic-area accommodation.

For a flight departing from DYG, accommodation in Wulingyuan or another scenic area requires the full road journey back to the airport. Work backwards from the airline's check-in deadline using the hotel's location and current traffic; hotels in central Yongding have a shorter airport transfer.

At dusk, arriving passengers leave from the terminal's arrivals level, where pre-arranged hotel transfers also set their meeting points.

Services for international arrivals

Chinese, English and Korean signs guide international passengers through immigration, baggage reclaim and the arrivals exit. An international visitor service centre provides help with transport, communication, payments and travel information during international-flight arrival hours. Travellers who need a SIM card, cash exchange, mobile-payment setup or confirmation of scenic-area transport can ask there before leaving the airport.
