Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport

Hongqiao Airport has two terminals. Metro Line 10 serves T1, while Lines 2 and 10 serve T2, which also connects with the Airport Link Line. T2 and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station share the wider Hongqiao hub, but they do not share one entrance or one security check.

"Hongqiao" is not a precise destination

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (上海虹桥国际机场, SHA) sits west of central Shanghai within the larger Hongqiao transport hub. A booking or map search that says only "Hongqiao" is incomplete. Check whether you need Terminal 1, Terminal 2, the railway station or a metro station.

Hongqiao Airport has two terminals. Include T1 or T2 whenever you book a car or search a route.

Check T1 or T2 first

Metro Line 10 serves Terminal 1. Terminal 2 has Lines 2 and 10, plus access to the Airport Link Line at Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 Station (虹桥2号航站楼站). Travelling to the wrong terminal adds a substantial detour, so confirm it in the airline app before leaving.

Line 2 is useful for East Nanjing Road, People's Square, Jing'an Temple and much of Pudong. Line 10 is often simpler for Xintiandi, Yuyuan Garden and neighbourhoods along its route. Check the hotel station and exit before choosing.

Moving between T2 and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station

Terminal 2 and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站) are within the same large hub and connected by signed walkways. They are still separate facilities. After a flight, allow time for baggage, the walk, railway security and finding the correct gate. In the other direction, include airline check-in and security.

Separate flight and rail bookings usually leave the passenger responsible for a missed connection. The buildings are close, but a tight transfer is still a gamble.

Getting to Pudong Airport

From T2, compare the Airport Link Line with Metro Line 2. The Airport Link Line is designed around the two airports and its interchange hubs. Line 2 makes more stops and can be useful if the journey includes time in central Shanghai. Check the day's operating hours whichever route you choose.

Taxi, ride-hailing and late arrivals

Taxis and ride-hailing cars use assigned pickup areas. Hongqiao has several roads and parking levels, so "meet me at Hongqiao" is not enough. Confirm the airport terminal, railway station, floor and zone. After the trains stop, follow airport signs to the official taxi rank or meet the booked car in the designated area.

Check current ground transport on the Shanghai Airport website.
