Songcheng combines recreated streets, live shows, and interactive attractions in a theatrical interpretation of Song culture. The Romance of the Song Dynasty is the centerpiece, while parades, water performances, and street activities fill the hours around it.

The main production moves through distinct layers of Hangzhou and Zhejiang memory: an opening built around early civilisation and Liangzhu imagery; court dance and an imagined Southern Song capital; the martial story of Yue Fei; the legends of the Butterfly Lovers and the White Snake; and a finale shaped by silk, tea, and modern Hangzhou. It is an emotional stage composition, not a chronological museum display.

The park also runs outdoor parades and water performances. Names, routes, and times can change, so the same-day program is more reliable than an old itinerary.

Street shows place performers and spectators on the same level, where acrobatics, martial arts, processions, and short scenes depend on proximity and interaction. Smaller theatres concentrate on one technique or story. With the main-show time as the fixed point, a visit can move between large-scale theatre, close street encounters, and evening lighting without trying to collect every item on the schedule.

Costumed performers, illuminated boats, and reflections extend the evening atmosphere beyond the main theatre show.

The Romance of the Song Dynasty is the reason many visitors buy a ticket. Showtimes change with the date and demand, so only the official listing for your day is useful. Confirm the theatre, seat, and admission time before wandering farther into the park.

Include the journey home

Ride-hailing and public transport both become busy after an evening show. If you are staying east of West Lake, near Hangzhou East Railway Station, or farther away, the return may take longer than the inbound journey. Families and older visitors should keep extra time in reserve.
