Eling TESTBED 2

From a wartime security printer to a hillside factory

During the War of Resistance, the Central Printing Plant at Eling produced banknotes and securities needed by wartime finance. It became Chongqing Printing Factory No. 2 in 1953 and expanded into packaging for food, medicine and other consumer industries. The everyday name “No. 2 Factory” stayed with its worker community.

Production moved away around 2012. Heritage conversion began in 2014 and the reopened complex welcomed the public in 2017. Large spans, regular columns, high windows, warehouses, courtyards and connecting passages remain the strongest evidence of how the site once worked.

New uses occupy the old frame

Studios, exhibitions, restaurants and shops now sit within old walls, stairs and services. The TESTBED 2 Memory Museum, opened in 2025, uses photographs, documents, packaging samples and awards to tell the stories of manufacturing and worker life. Displays and businesses change; the building remains the main historical object.

The ridge is also a city viewpoint

High points look toward both rivers, interchanges and dense Yuzhong towers. Eling Park, Fotuguan Park and Liziba can extend the route through historic gardens, industrial heritage and rail engineering. Ongoing area renewal may adjust some paths and viewpoints, so on-site access information remains useful.
